World Council of Credit Unions: Today’s Racial Turmoil and the Credit Union Answer

In light of the recent death of George Floyd and events across the United States in reaction to it, World Council of Credit Unions welcomed African-American Credit Union Coalition (AACUC) President and CEO Renée Sattiewhite to speak about the context in which these events occur and the resulting turmoil that impacts all of us in the credit union movement. The recent events are US; the challenges are global.

Credit union and cooperative values are those of non-discrimination, equality, equity and solidarity. It is in our DNA. In our global community, we work with peers of all national, ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds.

Credit unions are a big part of the answer and the solution. Our work brings people together to work for equity and social justice. Our work is a non-violent alternative.

A non-profit organization comprised of African-American professionals and volunteers in the credit union industry, the AACUC was created to increase the strength of the global credit union community.
